With 25 years of acting experience and nearly two decades in entrepreneurship, Jason Sim has built a career spanning entertainment, talent development and business leadership. As the founder of ADSBOX Entertainment, he has transformed what began as an initiative to help fellow performers secure more acting opportunities into a growing entertainment business with a presence in Singapore, Malaysia and China.
Beyond his roles as an actor, emcee and entrepreneur, Jason takes pride in nurturing aspiring performers and building a team capable of operating independently. His journey has also taught him valuable lessons about loyalty, resilience and the realities of running a business. Today, he discusses the evolution of ADSBOX Entertainment, the impact of artificial intelligence on the media industry, his entrepreneurial ambitions and his dream of becoming an international movie star.
What inspired you to start ADSBOX Entertainment, and how has its vision evolved over the years?
Initially, ADSBOX Entertainment was established to help fellow performers secure more opportunities, particularly roles in television and film productions. We also became the first agency to work with a particular production partner to provide part-time actors for acting roles in China.
At the beginning, the objective was simply to support one another and create more opportunities for talents to develop their careers. However, I gradually realised that the entertainment market was much bigger than I had initially imagined.
I wanted to take the business to another level, but building the necessary infrastructure, connections and talent network took another eight to ten years. Over time, we expanded beyond Singapore into Malaysia, including Johor Bahru and Kuala Lumpur, and eventually established a presence in Shenzhen, China.
What began as a relatively small initiative has evolved into a business with broader regional ambitions.
You wear many hats, such as being an entrepreneur, emcee and actor. How have your experiences in entertainment shaped the way you build and lead ADSBOX?
I believe entrepreneurship isn’t just about individual ability, but about building a strong team and a business that can operate independently.
After nearly 19 years in entrepreneurship, one of my greatest achievements is creating an automated structure that allows my team to manage and grow the company even when I’m away.
However, success shouldn’t be limited to the founder. I want my leaders and team members to grow alongside me, take on greater responsibilities and enjoy better financial rewards.
To me, genuine leadership means creating opportunities for everyone to succeed.
ADSBOX has trained and provided opportunities for many talents. How does it feel to watch them grow and establish themselves in the entertainment and media industry?
Today, we have more than 3,000 talents in our database, and over 400 students have graduated from our academy, some of whom have become celebrities.
As a coach, nothing makes me prouder than watching students develop their skills, build confidence and achieve important career milestones.
Whether they become celebrities or pursue other opportunities, seeing them grow and succeed is incredibly fulfilling. Their achievements remind me why nurturing talent remains such an important part of our work.

What were some of the toughest challenges you faced during the early years of your business, and how did you overcome them?
One of my biggest challenges has been dealing with betrayal and disloyalty. In entertainment, we invest considerable time and resources in nurturing talents, only to see some leave for better opportunities or even speak negatively about us.
While disappointing, I have learnt that loyalty cannot be controlled. Everyone has their own priorities and ambitions.
Rather than dwelling on these experiences, I have accepted them as part of entrepreneurship. They have strengthened my resilience, deepened my understanding of human behaviour and taught me not to take setbacks personally. These challenges have made me a stronger person and business leader.
With the rapid rise of artificial intelligence, how do you see AI reshaping content creation, branding and talent engagement in the near future?
Artificial intelligence is transforming the entertainment industry, particularly through realistic digital characters, cloned appearances and increasingly expressive performances.
While background actors and extras may be vulnerable to AI-generated alternatives, I don’t believe technology can completely replace skilled human actors.
Audiences still value genuine emotions, creativity and authenticity. There’s something about human performances that connects with people on a deeper level.
AI will undoubtedly become a powerful production tool, but actors must continue developing their skills and demonstrating the emotional depth that technology cannot easily replicate.
What is the most meaningful thing in your life right now?
I’m naturally ambitious and constantly setting new goals. One of my greatest satisfactions is building a business that generates revenue without my daily involvement, an achievement that took years of hard work and developing the right systems.
This freedom allows me to explore new opportunities, but I never want to become complacent. I’m always looking to improve myself, grow the company and increase profitability.
I’m also exploring other financial opportunities, including foreign exchange trading. To me, entrepreneurship is about continuous learning, growth and new possibilities.
What’s your vision for Singapore in the next five years?
Singapore has strong foundations and long-term development plans, but our entertainment industry’s biggest limitation is its relatively small domestic market.
While building a stable business locally is possible, larger markets such as China offer significantly greater audiences and financial opportunities.
I believe Singapore’s media companies and talents must look beyond our borders by strengthening international connections, forming regional partnerships and collaborating with overseas production companies.
My hope is to see Singapore’s entertainment industry become more internationally connected, competitive and capable of creating greater opportunities over the next five years.
If you could have a superpower for one day, what would it be and why?
If I could have a superpower, I would use it to fulfil one of my biggest personal dreams: becoming an international movie star. I have been acting for approximately 25 years and have taken on various supporting and leading roles in television and film productions.
However, I would love the opportunity to play the main male lead in a major international movie.
It’s not necessarily about becoming famous or gaining recognition. For me, it’s about experiencing what it feels like to carry a major production as its leading actor and work alongside talented performers from around the world.
After spending so many years in the entertainment industry, achieving that milestone would be deeply satisfying. It’s a dream that I still hope to fulfil one day.
