Bruce’s entrepreneurial journey spans more than two decades across manufacturing, F&B, digital content creation and now home entertainment. Every chapter of his career has equipped him with valuable skills that eventually came together to shape King of KTV, a company built not simply to sell karaoke systems, but to create memorable experiences for families and communities.

Drawing on his background in OEM manufacturing, customer service and social media marketing, Bruce believes that great products alone are never enough. By combining quality, honest advice and exceptional after-sales support, he hopes to transform home entertainment into a platform that strengthens relationships and brings people closer together.

Can you share your entrepreneurial journey and what inspired you to start King of KTV?

I have been an entrepreneur for more than 20 years, and every stage of my journey has prepared me for what I do today.

My first decade was spent in the OEM manufacturing industry, where I learnt product development, quality control, cost management and, most importantly, how to create products that deliver genuine value. I later entered the F&B industry, where I discovered that even the best product is not enough without excellent customer service, consistency and strong relationships.

In recent years, I also became a content creator on Douyin, China’s equivalent of TikTok. That experience taught me how to use digital marketing to build trust, engage audiences and grow a community around a brand.

These experiences gave me three essential strengths: understanding products, building businesses and connecting with people.

When I returned to Singapore, I planned to focus on content creation. However, a close friend and founder of JazPiper invited me to help develop the Singapore market. After personally testing the karaoke system, I was genuinely impressed by its quality and value.

Initially, I handled business development and marketing, but I soon realised there was a gap in the customer journey. While the product was excellent, many resellers focused only on making the sale. I believed customers also deserved proper consultation and reliable after-sales support.

With my friend’s support, I started King of KTV as a reseller focused on both sales and customer experience. From day one, our philosophy has been simple: selling a karaoke system is only the beginning. We provide home demonstrations, installation and ongoing support because we want customers to buy with confidence.

Looking back, what opportunity did you see in the market that others had overlooked?

I think many businesses focus on selling products, but not enough attention is given to helping customers make the right choice. When someone wants to buy a karaoke system, they usually have many questions. Which brand should I buy? Is a more expensive system always better? Will it be easy to use?

I saw an opportunity to become an adviser rather than just another salesperson.

At King of KTV, we spend time understanding each customer’s needs before recommending a solution. Sometimes the most expensive system isn’t the right one. My goal is to help customers avoid unnecessary spending and choose a system they will genuinely enjoy for years.

What were some of the biggest challenges during your early years in the business?

Like every new business, building trust was probably our biggest challenge. People didn’t know who we were, and when you’re selling products online, trust is everything.

Instead of competing on price, we decided to compete on service. For many customers, we even offered to deliver the system to their home, set it up, let them experience it first, and only pay if they were satisfied. If they weren’t happy, there was no obligation.

This approach required confidence in both our products and our service, but I believe that’s why we’ve received so many referrals. Happy customers became our best form of marketing.

Why did you choose to recommend JazPiper, and what makes King of KTV different from other suppliers?

Many people do not realise that I come from the OEM manufacturing industry, where I learnt to evaluate products objectively. Over the years, I have tested many karaoke systems before deciding which ones to recommend.

I have also known the founder of JazPiper for more than 20 years. We share the same belief in delivering high-quality products at fair prices rather than relying solely on marketing.

What sets King of KTV apart is that we do not recommend the same system to everyone. Instead, we help customers compare different options and choose the one that best suits their needs. Thanks to our close relationship with the manufacturer, we are also able to provide reliable after-sales support and prompt assistance whenever customers need help.

For me, selling a karaoke system is only the beginning. The real relationship starts after the sale.

Has running this business changed the way you think about the importance of leisure and human connection?

At first, I thought I was selling karaoke systems. Over time, I realised I was actually helping families spend more quality time together. Customers have told me their parents now sing together every evening, grandparents enjoy revisiting old songs, children spend less time on their phones, and families gather more often because of their karaoke system.

Those stories reminded me that entertainment isn’t just about having fun. It’s about creating memories and strengthening relationships.

Our vision extends far beyond selling karaoke systems. We aim to connect businesses, families and communities through entertainment by creating memorable experiences, organising events and bringing people together through the joy of music.

If you could sing one song that represents your entrepreneurial journey, what would it be and why?

For me, it would be 想和你去吹吹风 by Jacky Cheung. Many people know me because I enjoy singing this song. Beyond that, it represents my entrepreneurial journey because it reminds me to slow down.

Building a business is a long journey. Sometimes you face challenges, and sometimes things don’t go according to plan. But if you stay calm, keep learning and continue moving forward, you’ll eventually reach your destination.

Whenever problems arise, the first thing is to calm yourself down. Entrepreneurship is a marathon, not a sprint.

What is your vision for Singapore in the next five years?

I hope Singapore continues to be one of the best places in the world to build meaningful businesses and strong communities.

Technology and AI will continue to transform the way we work, but I believe genuine human relationships will become even more valuable.

Personally, I hope King of KTV can play a small part in bringing people together, whether it’s families spending quality time at home, businesses building stronger teams, or communities connecting through events.

If you could have a superpower for one day, what would it be and why?

I would choose the ability to instantly connect the right people.

Throughout my business journey, I’ve realised that one introduction can completely change someone’s life or business. A customer may meet the right supplier, a start-up may find the right investor, or a business owner may discover the perfect partner.

If I could create those meaningful connections every day, I believe that would be one of the most powerful superpowers anyone could have.
