Meet Eng Chang. In today’s digital-first world, a professional photograph is often the first impression someone makes. Recognising the growing importance of personal branding and professional image, Eng Chang founded Shoot You SG to help professionals, executives, and business owners present themselves with confidence, credibility, and authenticity.

After stepping away from the corporate world to pursue his passion for photography, he discovered that a well-crafted headshot is far more than just a picture. Through Shoot You SG, he helps individuals and organisations strengthen their personal brands, build trust, and create meaningful connections through impactful visual storytelling.

What inspired you to start Shoot You SG, and why did you decide to focus on corporate headshots and professional branding photography?

Photography has always fascinated me because of its ability to capture moments and emotions. At the same time, I decided that I did not want to remain in the corporate world, so I turned my passion into a career.

I chose to focus on corporate headshots because of the impact they create. A great headshot goes beyond capturing a face. It communicates credibility, approachability, and confidence. Ultimately, we help professionals unlock opportunities and present themselves in their best light.

Many people underestimate the importance of professional photography. When did you realise that a headshot could significantly impact someone’s career or business?

The turning point came when we started seeing tangible results for our clients.

Some clients were approached by recruiters after updating their professional photographs. Others secured roles they had been aiming for or saw an increase in business enquiries after uploading professional team photos and branding images.

A photograph acts as a silent ambassador. It builds trust before a single word is spoken and helps businesses create a strong first impression.

What are some common mistakes people make with their LinkedIn photos or corporate headshots?

One common mistake is using outdated photographs that were taken five or even ten years ago.

Others use heavily filtered images that no longer reflect how they actually look. I also see people cropping themselves out of holiday or group photos and using those as professional headshots.

A professional image should be current, authentic, and representative of who you are today.

Through your experience photographing professionals, what do you think people are most afraid of when being photographed?

Most people are naturally camera-shy. They worry about looking awkward, not knowing how to pose, or having their flaws highlighted.

Our role as photographers goes far beyond operating a camera. We create a comfortable environment where clients can relax, lower their guard, and simply be themselves. That is usually when the best photographs are captured.

Building a photography business is highly competitive. What are some of the biggest challenges you have faced as a founder?

One of the biggest challenges is balancing the artistic and business aspects of the company.

Photography itself is only a small part of running the business. There are many talented photographers in the market. Beyond photography, you need to manage marketing, operations, customer experience, and relationship building.

Those areas are just as important as the creative work itself.

If you could give your 18-year-old self one piece of advice, what would it be?

I would tell myself not to run away from things that scare me.

Whether it is public speaking, taking risks, or putting yourself out there, there is never a perfect time to start. Even doing interviews like this is a challenge for me because I am naturally introverted.

Take the shot, make the call, and learn along the way.

What role do you see AI and digital transformation playing in the future of photography?

AI is not something we should fight against. Instead, we should embrace it and learn how to use it to our advantage.

What AI cannot replace is human connection. In corporate photography, success depends on understanding clients, building trust, and uncovering the story they want to tell through their images.

Photography is not just about taking a picture. It is about understanding people, their goals, and the image they want to project. That human element remains irreplaceable.

What is your vision for Singapore in the next five years?

I would like to see Singapore continue evolving into a vibrant global hub where local SMEs and businesses not only survive but take on greater leadership roles both locally and internationally.

If you could have a superpower for one day, what would it be and why?

I would choose teleportation.

I love travelling and exploring new places, but I dislike long flights, waiting at airports, and traffic jams. With teleportation, I could maximise every moment of the day and experience far more of the world.
