Meet Patricia, the creative force behind one of Singapore’s most unique and imaginative bakeries. As the founder of Yours Sincerely Bakery, she has turned ordinary celebrations into unforgettable moments with her one-of-a-kind creations—from intricately customised cakes to quirky and fun burn away cakes and even drinkable cakes.

Her passion for baking goes beyond taste; it’s about storytelling, surprise, and joy. Every cake is a personalised experience, carefully crafted to reflect her clients’ personalities, wishes, or even secrets waiting to be revealed beneath a sugar veil.

What inspired you to start your own bakery and how do you get into creating unique cakes like burn away cakes and drinkable cakes?

It started as a hobby at home—baking cakes for my own family, then seeing their faces light up, happy to receive my creation. That brought joy to me. So yes, that’s how I started the bakery—with the idea of baking for my customers as I would for my family, and hoping they experience the same joy my family did.

As for creating unique cakes like burn away or drinkable cakes, I felt that birthday cakes in the market were quite stagnant. Most people feel like, how many ways can you have your cake? Cake is cake.

But I felt there was more room for innovation, so I explored more ideas and unique ways to reignite the joy and surprise of receiving a cake.

Can you explain what a burn away cake and a drinkable cake are and what makes them so popular with your customers?

Burn away cakes are like performing magic on a cake. It’s like an edible paper with photos and prints—top and bottom. When you light it up, the fire reveals what’s beneath. We use edible prints to create this. A lot of people ask, “Is this safe to eat?”

I would say it’s similar to toasted marshmallow—same concept. It’s popular also because people never thought cakes could be so interactive. It’s like playing magic with food—fun and unique—making the experience better.

For drinkable cakes, it’s like—I love drinks like bubble tea, and a lot of people do too. So I thought, why not combine them? Drinkable bubble tea with cakes. For bubble tea lovers, there’s a way to enjoy their favourite drinks and cake at the same time, especially on a special occasion like their birthday.

You can eat the cake and also drink your favourite drink. It can be any drink. It’s very popular because people are amazed by the idea of drinking from a cake and being able to eat it too.

I always love the idea of customising cakes to match a person’s favourite colours, hobbies or interests—and making it fun and interactive. Receiving a personalised cake on your birthday brings joy. Making it extra special by adding these fun elements and things they love makes it more memorable on their special day.

What has been the most unusual or memorable cake request that you have received?

One of the most unusual requests I received was a giant cockroach cake—really realistic—for a birthday. Another is a realistic heart for a Halloween event—like a real heart.

I really enjoy making these cakes because people are amazed by how realistic the cake can look. It’s fun to push the boundaries and create something unexpected.

How do you balance creativity with practicality when designing customised cakes for events?

This is one of the bigger challenges I face. I refuse to sacrifice creativity for practicality. I always start with the idea or design first and then figure out how to make it work.

For instance, I once catered an event for 400 guests, and I had to transport my equipment and team with freezer trucks to the venue. Most of the work had to be done on site. It was quite challenging because cakes usually need to be refrigerated and set before delivery.

We had limited time to get everything right. It’s all about finding creative solutions to bring the vision to life without compromising on quality.

What were the main challenges you faced when you started your bakery, and how did you overcome them?

In the beginning, it was days and days with no sleep—like three or four days straight—just working non-stop when I started because I had no employees. I had to handle everything myself. I needed to track, complete orders, and do marketing for the business.

I always believed that with a superior product, customers would come in organically. But I’ve come to realise that a strong product without marketing is worse than a mediocre product with good marketing. So now I’m trying to improve on the latter.

How do you keep up with the trends in the cake world, and where do you get your inspiration for new designs?

Trends are always evolving. I try to stay ahead of the curve by adding my own twist to them. I always think: how can I improve this trend? How can I make it unique or stand out from others?

I like to experiment by combining different ideas to create something new or unexpected. Inspiration comes from all places—daily life, nature, or sometimes just a random thought. I love finding ways to incorporate these into my designs.

What are your future plans for your bakery? Are you looking to expand, launch new products, or explore other creative cake concepts?

My future plan for the bakery is to build a strong brand. I believe cakes can be adventurous, and since birthdays only come once a year, it’s important to make them memorable. We’ll continue to launch new products and new ideas, and stay on top of trends—keeping things fresh and exciting.

The goal is to give customers who usually order traditional birthday cakes more options.

What is your vision for Singapore in the next five years?

In the next five years, I see Singapore continuing to thrive as a hub of innovation, creativity, and culture. I believe that food will keep evolving, and there’ll be more opportunities for local businesses to flourish and showcase their unique offerings.

As for my bakery, I hope to contribute to that growth by offering innovative and memorable cake experiences—expanding our brand and fostering deeper connections with the community.

It’s exciting to think how we can push boundaries, celebrate, and bring people together through the joy of food.
