What inspired you to become a magician?

I remember when I was really little, my mother had a colleague while she was working in a department store. This colleague of hers took a rubber band, tied it around his finger, and made it hop from this finger to that finger, just like this. Then he made it hop back. I was amazed and asked him to teach me. But he wouldn’t, because, as they say, a magician never reveals his secrets.

After that, I asked my mum. My mum said she knew how to do it. I kept pestering her all the way home, and finally, while we were sitting on the bus, she taught me. That was the first magic trick I learned. So, when you ask me what inspired me, I think it was my mother and her colleague.

As I grew older, I remember watching David Blaine. The things he did were so cool. I wanted to learn it all. I started watching him a lot and learned from him.

How did you develop your Wizard of Love persona?

For the Wizard of Love persona, it came from my realisation that love is the strongest magical power. Love is why we exist and why we are created. When I apply love in everything I do, even when teaching, people feel it. Love inspires and transforms. That’s the real magic behind everything. So, I started calling myself the Wizard of Love.

With over 20 years of experience, how has the world of magic evolved, and how have you adapted to these changes?

Now, with technology, you press one button, and magic happens. Sometimes you don’t even know if it’s real or AI. A lot of people copy tricks now. But what I do is improve and make them mine. The key is skill—something AI can’t replicate. AI can’t give you love or soul. That’s why I mix dance, singing, and magic. It’s a package that people can’t copy. I insist on performing magic with love and skill, ensuring it’s authentic and impactful.

Levitation is a memorable part of your act. What drew you to mastering this illusion?

Have you ever dreamed of flying? Me too. It feels so real. I still believe I can fly. I was inspired by David Copperfield’s flying act, which is, in my opinion, the best magic performance of all time. It’s breathtaking, and I wanted to bring that dream of flying into reality.

What is the most memorable performance you’ve done, and why does it stand out?

The most memorable performance was at the SEA Aquarium in Sentosa. When I arrived, I was told I couldn’t bring cards because it’s under Resorts World Casino rules. I thought, “No cards? No problem.” I improvised, using whatever was on the table—a photo frame, T-shirts—and performed magic with them.

The setting was beautiful, with fish swimming around. That performance was a turning point. I realised that magic is not about the tools but about making the impossible seem real.

I encourage everyone to say “I love you” at least once a day. Imagine if everyone did that—there’d be no more war, only peace and love.

How do you incorporate the theme of love into your life?

My slogan is “Love is all around.” Words are powerful; they’re like spells. When you say “I love you” repeatedly, it manifests love. I once knew someone who was obsessed with me for five years. She persistently told me “I love you” every day. Persistence is a form of magic, too. So, I encourage everyone to say “I love you” at least once a day. Imagine if everyone did that—there’d be no more war, only peace and love.

What are the biggest challenges you face as a magician, and how do you overcome them?

One of the biggest challenges was disapproval from my parents. They didn’t support my passion for magic. So, I packed my things, left home, and became homeless for a few years. I performed as a street magician, earning money through busking. Persistence was key. If you don’t give up, you’ll achieve your dreams.

Magic often involves a deep connection with the audience. How do you ensure your performances remain engaging and emotionally impactful?

I focus on interactive magic, letting the magic happen in the audience’s hands. Eye contact is crucial for connection. On stage, I involve the audience in my acts, making them part of the magic.

What advice would you give to aspiring magicians looking to make their mark?

First, identify what you want—whether it’s to be a professional magician, a celebrity magician, or something else. Once you know, keep improving and creating new things. Persist. If you raise your skill level high enough, the opportunities will come to you.

Looking ahead, what are your future plans for your magic career?

I’m preparing for America’s Got Talent again. My last audition was last year, and I will go again this year. My goal is to be a celebrity magician, performing in top venues like MBS and Suntec. I want to maintain high standards and perform at a world-class level.

Where do you see yourself and what’s your vision for Singapore in the next five years?

I see myself as an all-rounded superstar—singing, dancing, and performing magic at the highest level.

And for Singapore, I feel Singapore is a very pleasant country, very nice, safe and clean. She’s advancing so well. I been to so many countries but I think Singapore is still the best. It will continue to grow and prosper.
